Middle School – Reflections
The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Suspended between childhood and the adult world, pre-teens are the toughest to teach. At Azaan International School – Middle School we nurture the students with lots of care, protection and strong curriculum, which motivates the students to become independent learners who are prepared to succeed in high school.
Middle school curriculum focuses mainly on English, Maths, Science, Social Studies and languages. Students develop independent learning strategies, further their reading comprehension skills, begin exploring advanced math concepts in preparation for higher level math courses, explore physical and life sciences, and study the geography, civics and history of the world around them.
Pre-Teens develop lots of hormonal changes in their bodies which they find very hard to handle. They face lots of stress due to these changes as they start comparing themselves with their friends and want to be the best. As the changes in pre-teens differ from person to person some become very sensitive where as some become very rude, there are lots of behavior changes which take place and it is very important to the teacher to handle all these emotions of the students along with the academics. A teacher forms a biggest support to the pre-teens as they crave for attention and care. All the activities are planned considering their emotional changes and also to make their academics strong. Each child is considered to be unique and each child is motivated in a different way which makes them move their academic performance curve in upward direction.
